Los Angeles, CA – In response to the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County, FEMA and the State of California are working together to provide safe and accessible temporary shelter for displaced survivors. Through the Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) program, eligible households can stay in participating hotels or motels while developing long-term housing plans.
What does the assistance include?
- Hotel or motel accommodations: FEMA will cover the cost of rooms, taxes, and non-refundable pet fees at participating hotels. Survivors are responsible for other expenses such as laundry, meals, and additional services.
- Financial assistance: FEMA offers reimbursements for out-of-pocket lodging expenses, rental assistance for temporary housing, and support for home repairs.
How to access TSA?
Survivors who have already applied for disaster assistance do not need to submit a separate request. FEMA will automatically notify eligible individuals via phone call, text, or email, depending on the contact method selected during the application process.
Additional available assistance programs:
- Displacement Assistance: Upfront financial aid for immediate housing needs, including hotels, staying with friends or family, or other temporary housing options.
- Rental Assistance: Covers the cost of temporary housing, such as apartments, houses, or short-term rentals.
- Lodging Expense Reimbursement (LER): Reimburses lodging costs not covered by insurance, provided they were incurred on or after January 7, 2025. This includes room and tax costs but excludes food, transportation, or additional services.
